With a total of four terminals, the city can accommodate some of the largest cruise vessels in the industry. With fantastic shopping opportunities and a large number of museums and art galleries, Southampton is a cosmopolitan city with a lot to offer visitors as well as those arriving in the area prior to embarking on a cruise.

Day 5
Madeira, Madeira, Portugal

Situated just north of the Canary Islands is the Portuguese island of Madeira – a sub-tropical island known for its lush green and mountainous landscapes. This unique island is a nature-lover’s paradise, with volcanic caves, lava tubes, botanical gardens, and one of the world’s highest ocean cliffs all to be explored and admired. The island is also perfect for anyone looking to catch a glimpse of the local wildlife including a range of birds and a plethora of marine life in the surrounding waters.

Day 8
Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain

Tenerife is the largest island of the Canary Islands and is home to a number of fabulous golden beaches and fascinating natural landmarks. Due to its location, just off of the western coast of Africa, the year-round temperature rarely drops below the high teens, creating perfect conditions for a spot of sun-kissed relaxation. One of the most instantly recognisable landmarks of the island is El Teide, which is the third highest volcano in the world when measured from its base on the ocean floor. A cable car ride to the top of this UNESCO World Heritage Site will give you a deeper understanding of the volcano, while also offering fabulous views over the island.

Day 9
Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, Spain

Day 10
Lanzarote, Canary Islands, Spain

Lanzarote is the northernmost and easternmost of the Canary Islands and is home to a number of unique volcanic landmarks that paint an image of the island’s origins. The Timanfaya National Park is made up of a volcanic landscape that has not changed since the last eruption on the island, in the early 18th century. This fascinating area covers a quarter of the island’s surface and offers an insight into the natural history of Lanzarote. Alternatively, make the most of the glorious weather by relaxing on one of the many superb golden beaches.

Day 12
Lisbon, Portugal

Built on seven hills, the Portuguese capital of Lisbon shares a similar status to the Italian city of Rome and the Turkish city of Istanbul. This vibrant and cultural city has much to offer to the discerning visitor, with many beautiful gardens, stunning architectural wonders, and cultural relics such as the traditional trams which have operated in Lisbon since the 1930’s. Head to Cine Theatro Gymnasium if you get the chance, as this is where you will be able to experience a daily performance of Fado – a distinctive Portuguese style of music that has gained UNESCO World Heritage status.

The Lido Bar looks out over the aft pool and the stern of your cruise ship and is the ideal spot to appreciate the talents of the onboard pianist.

Marquee Bar

The Marquee Bar offers plenty of refreshment options, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. The floor-to-ceiling windows let the light flood in, letting you take in the panoramic views.

Morning Light Pub

The Morning Light Pub is decorated in a traditional style, depicting the century and a half of Fred. Olsen history. Daytime or evening you can be entertained by occasional live music or stand-up comedians.

Observatory Lounge

The large picture windows in the Observatory Lounge offer fantastic views which are enhanced with plenty of binoculars spaced around the lounge. A grand piano provides the perfect background music as you enjoy a pre-dinner cocktail on your cruise holiday.

Boutique

Port Shop

Left something behind? The Port Shop sells all of your holiday essentials so you needn’t panic too much. From simple items such as toiletries to new book-shaped friends to share your sun-lounger with; if you need it then the chances are that the Port Shop has it.

Library

Because the library is often the quietest place on the ship, it can also be the most relaxing. And with your head in a good book you can transport yourself even further away from home than you already are. You’ll find many different types of literature here upon shelves which are always fully-stocked.

Card room

The card room is where you will find many people who share in the same interest. These tables allow you to keep up with your regular playing routine, forge new friendships with other card enthusiasts and take a break from the outside areas of the ship.

If you prefer similar pastimes, there may also be classic board games being played as well as a few puzzles being completed.

Photo Gallery

Have you been papped by the photography team during your holiday? Find out by browsing the pictures in the photo gallery and possibly purchasing a nice memento to take home. If you have digital photos on your camera, the team at the gallery can also put these onto a disk for you, whilst the nearby shop will stock any spare batteries or media cards to keep you clicking away for longer.

Braemar Lounge

The Braemar Lounge is light and breezy and is the perfect place to slump into a comfortable chair and take a few minutes to yourself. Often the gentle sound of live music will dance on your ear drums and put you in the perfect holiday mood.

Promenade

A brisk walk in the fresh sea air is great for the lungs and a good way to help your dinner digest before you enjoy a night of entertainment in the Neptune Lounge. The promenade stretches all the way around the Lounge Deck and helps to show off the wealth of space there is on board Balmoral. During the day, there are often games being played that all passengers are free to join in with.

Enrichment

Fred. Olsen offers an interesting array of guest speakers lectures discussing various subjects including upcoming destinations. These are available on the Vista-themed cruises.

Arts and Crafts Room

The arts and crafts room is predominantly used during Fred. Olsen Vistas themed cruises. This space is where you can allow your creative mind to roam free and see what you’re able to create. Your time spent in this room may leave you with a self-made something to take home or a more enriched mind courtesy of the passionate lecturers that often make presentations.

Art Gallery

Art lovers will be delighted to know that some of the Olsen family’s personal art collection is dotted around the ship. As you walk towards the Ballindalloch Restaurant there is a mini gallery for you to browse in the corridor.

Lectures

Dining

Dining onboard Balmoral is spread across four restaurants and cafés, with fixed and casual dining options, as well as formal or more intimate surroundings.

Ballindalloch

The Ballindalloch restaurant is the main dining option on board Balmoral. Named after the Scottish castle it offers ocean views in a formal setting. There are two seating per night and often a special gala dinner is held here. Tables seat 2-8.

The Spey Restaurant

Avon Restaurant

An informal, relaxed dining venue.

Palms Cafe

The Palms Cafe offers alternative for those times when you prefer not to stick to the set dinner times on board your cruise holiday. Casual self-service buffet, offering a less formal setting.

Marquee Bar

Casual lunch al fresco.

HealthFitness

A selection of health, fitness, beauty and relaxation areas are available onboard. From The Atlantis Spa & Salon to the state-of-the-art Fitness Centre, where you can work up a sweat in one of the many fitness classes on offer.

Atlantis Spa and Salon

Step into the Atlantis Spa & Salon and emerge a different person. With a wide range of treatments that vary from massages to facials, you can discover an oasis on board Balmoral. Re-energise yourself and indulge in a bit of pampering; you know you deserve it.

Don’t forget the salon though. A stylish trim or an alluring new colour on your nails could set you up perfectly for one of the formal nights which often provide memorable highlights. The spa and salon will be open from 8am until 8pm, with the occasionally late closure at 10pm. We recommend booking any pamper sessions early as they can be very popular.

Fitness Centre

If your means of relaxation involves releasing your energy on the treadmill then you can take a visit to the well-equipped fitness centre. Gaze out to sea as you lift a few weights or imagine you are travelling alongside the ship on the rowing machine.

If you are looking for some lighter fitness activities, there are also dance and aerobics sessions that you are free to join in on. If you need a hand getting to grips with some of the machines then the helpful instructors will be on hand to guide you.

Swimming Pools and Whirlpools

If you are starting to feel slightly guilty about all the delicious food you have been enjoying, why not take to the pool and swim a few lengths. The heated water will mean that you can enjoy a quick dip even if you are sailing through the arctic, whilst the warm weather in other regions may leave you with little choice but to cool off by making a splash.

There are not one but two swimming pools on board Balmoral and the one found on the Lounge Deck also has two Jacuzzis attached to it. These whirlpools will add a touch of luxury to your swim and provide a great place to relax with a cool drink.

Sun Deck and Golfing

When the sun is out, the sun deck is definitely the place to be. Passengers just love to lay back and soak up the rays whilst others are splashing around in the nearby pool. And with a long drink in hand, the scene is set for a relaxing afternoon.

For the avid golfer (and those wanting to give it a go), there are practice nets on this deck for you to hone your skills. Feel like you are on the world’s most isolated golf course as you look out to sea whilst working on your swing.
