Southampton’s location, at the foot of the United Kingdom, offers an ideal point from which to embark on a cruise out of the UK. With a total of four terminals, the city can accommodate some of the largest cruise vessels in the industry. With fantastic shopping opportunities and a large number of museums and art galleries, Southampton is a cosmopolitan city with a lot to offer visitors as well as those arriving in the area prior to embarking on a cruise.

Stavanger, Norway

As the fourth largest city in Norway, Stavanger is a cultural hub and a business district with many museums, restaurants, and interesting landmarks. The Stavanger Oil Museum is filled with fascinating relics from Norway’s oil industry, with many interesting displays; while a journey to Gamle Stavanger (Old Stavanger) will take you on a journey back in time through many winding streets filled with well-preserved wooden houses.

Alta, Norway

The Norwegian city of Alta is situated in the county of Finnmark, Northern Norway. This settlement is best known for its series of prehistoric rock carvings, which have gained UNESCO World Heritage status. These carvings can be found in five separate areas across the city and it is thought that they were made by hunters and fishers during the Late Stone Age/Early Metal Age between 6,200 and 2,000 years ago.

Tromso, Norway

Tromso is located 350km north of the Arctic Circle and is considered to be one of the northernmost cities on earth. Despite its remote location, it is also a centre of art, history, and culture. There are many museums and unique churches here including the Arctic Cathedral – home to the largest stained-glass windows in Northern Europe. Tromso is also an ideal place from which to admire the natural phenomenon that is the northern lights.

Trondheim, Norway

The old central Norwegian city of Trondheim is an historical settlement with over 1,000 years of history. It is epitomised by the towering Nidaros Cathedral, which overlooks the city and is one of the largest churches in northern Europe. This magnificent landmark is the only major gothic cathedral in Norway and sits next door to the Archbishop’s Palace. Elsewhere in the city, you will find a range of wooden mansions including Stiftsgaarden – the King’s local residence.

Alesund, Norway

As the largest city in western Norway, Alesund is home to 40,000 inhabitants and is a major centre of tourism. Here, you will find many museums and sea parks which provide an insight into the local history and culture. The must-see landmark, however, is Fjellstua, which offers breath-taking views over the surrounding area. Fjellstua does require a 400-step walk, but fantastic views can be appreciated even if you only complete half of the climb. It is also accessible via a short taxi journey.

Bergen, Norway

Bergen is Norway’s second largest city and is renowned for its beautiful surrounding nature and excellent hiking opportunities. The city has its own unique culture, with a spectacular artistic and musical scene. Its harbour has gained UNESCO World Heritage status for its charming houses and its role as one of the oldest ports in Northern Europe. Most of the city is located on or around  a fjord and and is a major port of call for most Norwegian and Arctic cruises.

Newcastle upon Tyne, UK, England

The port city of Newcastle upon Tyne, more commonly known simply as Newcastle, is located in the north east of England with a lively and diverse culture. Home to many galleries, museums and theatres, Newcastle is a city that can delight the senses. The River Tyne is home to some of the city’s more historic features including the High Level Bridge – the first major example of a wrought iron tied arch bridge, which was completed in 1849. A short journey out of the city will take you to the impressive Angel of the North sculpture, which stands 20 metres high and has a 54-metre wingspan; and Hadrian’s Wall – a World Heritage Site fortification, built by the Roman Empire in 122AD.

The Morning Light Pub is decorated in a traditional style, depicting the century and a half of Fred. Olsen history. Daytime or evening you can be entertained by occasional live music or stand-up comedians.

Observatory Lounge

The large picture windows in the Observatory Lounge offer fantastic views which are enhanced with plenty of binoculars spaced around the lounge. A grand piano provides the perfect background music as you enjoy a pre-dinner cocktail on your cruise holiday.

Neptune Lounge

Shows, reviews and evenings of cabaret are what the Neptune Lounge has to offer. Neptune Lounge has ample room for passengers whichever dinner sitting you are on, so you can find a seat to enjoy the glitz and glamour of the evening shows.

The Port Shop onboard stocks all the holiday essentials that you may have forgotten to pack from toiletries to sun hats or even a good book. You’ll also find a wide range of sweet treats and savoury snacks – perfect for whilst onboard or as gifts to take home.

Marina Theatre

Enjoy one of the programmed movies in the surroundings of a cinema. The Marina Theatre is perfect for those relaxing days at sea or even to catch a late night movie after dinner. The Marina Theatre can also be used for group meetings or get-togethers, if booked with the Reception.

Gaming Tables

The Black Watch includes a gaming area where you may try your hand at the Black Jack table or Roulette wheel. Try and beat the experienced croupiers, and there is even the opportunity to learn how to play better, with daytime sessions teaching you how to win big.

The Braemer Lounge

The Braemar Lounge on board your cruise ship Black Watch, is located on the Lounge Deck, close to the Glentanar Restaurant. It is the perfect spot to enjoy a morning coffee and catch up on a good book, conversation with friends, or for a pre-dinner drink. You may even hear the resident pianist tinkling the ivories in the Braemar Garden from here.

Enrichment

Fred. Olsen offers an interesting array of guest speakers to talk to the passengers onboard. Discussing various subjects including upcoming destinations.

Lectures

On selected cruises a range of Vistas speakers who can’t wait to share their passion with you, and make your cruise really memorable. From Lars Tharp the admired historian, lecturer and a long-running expert on the Antiques Roadshow; food and wine expert Jilly Goolden and gardener Charlie Dimmock.

Arts and Crafts room

The Arts & Crafts Room on board your cruise ship is the perfect space to explore your ideas and designs with arts and crafts lecturers. So, for the creative amongst you, there will be plenty to keep you entertained throughout your cruise holiday, and perhaps leave you with your own self-crafted souvenir to take home.

Dining

Two main dining rooms, a café and casual lunch or snack options are available onboard, with a choice of set dinner times or more informal ‘freedom dining.’ Choose between formal, intimate and relaxed surroundings, or special themed nights.
The main dining room is split into two with Glentanar Restaurant, as the larger dining room, and The Orchid Room, a smaller offshoot. Both offer open seating for breakfast and two seatings for lunch and dinner. Glentanar’s has panoramic windows with fine sea views and a large menu. The Orchid Room is an oriental designed, quieter and more intimate restaurant with gourmet meals.

The Glantanar Restaurant

The stylish Glentanar Restaurant is the main restaurant onboard Black Watch where your taste buds will be tantalised by the delightful and huge choice of dishes freshly prepared by our award winning chefs.
The Glentanar Restaurant has panoramic windows from which to admire magnificent ocean views or your current port of call whilst enjoying a meal during your cruise holiday.

The Orchid Room

This beautifully Oriental designed and intimate restaurant provides a fantastic setting to enjoy a gourmet meal freshly prepared by the award winning chefs.

The Garden Café

The Garden Café offers a delicious buffet to tempt you throughout your stay onboard Black Watch. It is a casual lounge area with a stylish bar making this the perfect location for a lunchtime snack or if you don’t feel like dressing for one of the formal nights during your cruise holiday onboard Black Watch.

HealthFitness

A selection of health, fitness, beauty and relaxation areas are available onboard. From The Atlantis Spa & Salon to the state-of-the-art Fitness Centre, where you can work up a sweat in one of the many fitness classes on offer.

Atlantis Spa and Salon

Atlantis Spa and Salon offers a range of treatments and facilities including: facials, massages, waxing and body shaping treatments. The spa is open from 8am - 8pm daily. A sauna is a must and should help you to unwind after a busy day on your cruise holiday. The sauna is located on the sun deck within the fitness centre and gymnasium.

Fitness Centre

A fully equipped fitness centre with sea views, fitness instructors and a range of equipment includes: treadmills, rowing machines, exercise bikes, free weights. Take a yoga, aerobics, stretch and tone or pilates class while you cruise. Or make the most of the beautiful views and join the ‘walk a mile’, with a revitalising stroll, or more energetic walk round your cruise ship deck in the mornings.

Golfing

For those keen golfers, take in sweeping sea views as you hone your perfect swing. Take some time to yourself in the practice golf nets.

Swimming Pools & Whirlpools

All swimming pools are heated. The pool on the Lounge deck of Black Watch is located at the aft of the ship, adjacent to the Poolside Café. The aft pool also incorporates a pair of exercise pool. There is also another pool located on the Marquee deck.

Tennis

With nets to catch your quick serves, tennis enthusiasts can practise their back hand whilst away and hone that perfect swing.

Facilities

Dietary Requirements

Individual needs are as catered for as possible. So, vegetarian, low fat, dairy-free, lactose-free and gluten-free food are all on the menu.
Please make any special requests when you make your cruise booking, and Fred. Olsen will do their best to source exact products, or provide certain foods, such as diabetic desserts. They may not be able to source specific brands given our location or the availability at local ports.

Dress Code

When it comes to evenings onboard your cruise ship, dressing for dinner is traditional. Generally the style is smart casual, with gentlemen wearing a jacket/or shirt and tie and ladies smartly dressed. Chino type trousers or smart dark jeans are acceptable, but no trainers.
During the day the restaurants require cruise guests to adhere to an appropriate dress code, i.e. no swimwear.

E-cigarette Policy

Electronic cigarettes, not emitting a vapour may be used in cabins or on cabin balconies but, are not permitted in any non-smoking public area. They can easily be mistaken for a real cigarette and result in potential confrontation and necessitate staff intervention.
Electronic cigarettes emitting any vapour, even if only a water vapour, may only be smoked in designated external smoking areas.

All Inclusive Packages

Upgrade to the special All Inclusive Package and you can relax, knowing almost everything is covered. You'll enjoy selected beers, wines, spirits and soft drinks all day.

Disabled facilities

Fred. Olsen welcomes all guests relying on wheelchairs for mobility onboard cruise ships. but they do ask that you advise them of your mobility needs at the time of booking in order to meet heir health & safety requirements.

Children

During the Easter, summer and Christmas holidays only, Fred Olsen offer organised and hosted children’s activities, subject to a minimum number of children booked on the cruise. Children’s club supervise children from age 5-11, with Children’s hosts arranging meet and greets with parents and children when they embark.

Children’s clubs offer a wide range of activities including games, contests, scavenger hunts, sports and fitness instruction, arts and crafts, cooking and children’s parties.

Outside Cabins on board Black Watch range from approximately 160 square feet to approximately 200 square feet for a Superior Outside Cabin. All Outside Cabins have a bathroom with a shower and/or bath. Some Outside Cabins have picture windows, and all cabins have a television.

Inside Cabin

Twin Inside cabins onboard Black Watch are all approximately 140 square feet in size, have a bathroom with a shower, and can be found on Atlantic and Marina Decks. All Inside cabins also have a television.
