Day 1
Dover, UK, England

Epitomised by the towering, glistening white cliffs, the East Kent port town of Dover provides an ideal point of access from which to embark on a cruise. As well as its geological features, Dover also holds significant cultural and historical value. Dover Castle has stood on these cliffs for 2,000 years and its walls contain many historical relics including a Roman lighthouse, a Saxon church and a Norman keep, as well as a series of tunnels which were built for the Dunkirk evacuation.

Day 5
Cadiz, Spain

The Spanish city of Cadiz sits in an enviable position on a peninsula on the southwestern coast of Spain. It is almost entirely surrounded by water, which has paved the way for some excellent urban beaches. Cadiz is thought to be one of the oldest cities in Western Europe, having been discovered by Phoenician sailors around 3,000 years ago and it has always played a significant role as a seaport and trading post. During the 18th century, Spain’s galleons explored the world from Cadiz and many of the city’s historic look-out towers and weathered old buildings remain today. The city is home to some magnificent architecture including the Cathedral and churches of Santa Cruz and San Felipe Neri. It is here that Spain defied Napoleon’s siege and established a provisional government with its own liberal constitution. Cadiz provides an ideal point of access for the Guadalquivir River and the Doñana National Park.

Cannes, France

Cannes has developed from the small coastal village into one of the most glamorous destinations on the French coast. The international film festival attracts celebrities from far and wide, with visitors often being able to see their favourite actors and directors in person. There are many public and private beaches, while a walk by the Vieux Port can provide for a pleasant experience. If you are looking to simply soak in your surroundings, head to the castle ruins in the old town, which will provide you with a mesmerising view over Cannes.

Day 12
Almeria, Spain

Like many Andalusian cities, Almeria kept its name following the recapture of the city by the Spanish from the Arabic. It is often regarded as the driest city in Europe due to its southerly location and, therefore, its beaches are regularly populated by tourists. There are many fascinating architectural structures located within the city including the fortress-style cathedral and the Alcazaba – an incomplete 10th century medieval fortress that was partially destroyed by an earthquake in 1522. Also worth visiting is the Natural Park of Cabo de Gata Nijar – an interesting nature reserve based within a volcanic atmosphere with many beaches and coves.

Day 14
Leixoes, Portugal

The Portuguese seaport of Leixoes is closely situated to both the city of Porto and the mouth of the Douro River. The city of Porto is home to many landmarks of interest and a walk through its passage and alleyways will slowly reveal a unique sense of charm. A distinctively vibrant culture of music and art can be discovered while wandering the narrow city streets that make up this enchanting city.
