As you may already know, Bordeaux is renowned for its wines – many of which are considered among the best in the world. The petit Museum of Bordeaux Wine and Trade is housed in the building of an old wine merchant and offers an insight into the production of wine and even a chance to sample selected wines. If you are looking to soak up the culture and atmosphere of Bordeaux, consider taking a stroll along Sainte-Catherine Street, in the Pedestrian Centre. Alternatively, you could climb 243 steps of the tower of Saint-Michel and enjoy unparalleled views over Bordeaux.

The beautiful River Garonne is possibly south-west France's most important river, and arguably one of the region's most picturesque too.

6
Day 6
Bordeaux, France

Beautiful Bordeaux is world renowned for it's famous wines, but there's a lot more to this fine French city than vineyards and claret.

7
Day 7
Lorient, France

A former German U-Boat base, Lorient played a huge role in the Second World War and was a primary target for Allied bombing raids. Today, the rebuilt city is awash with post 1950's architecture and a number of museums and galleries to discover and explore.

8
Day 8
Rouen, France

The capital of the region of Normandy, Rouen lies along the River Seine, just 75 miles from its entrance on the English Channel. Rouen is perhaps most famous for being the site of the trial of Joan of Arc. Rouen also boasts a wealth of gothic architecture, which has named it the nickname “city of a hundred spires”. The most notable buildings are the spectacular Cathedrale Notre Dame and the Eglise St. Maclou, which is home to some of the finest wood carvings in France. Until the 19th century, Rouen was also the main seaport in France and is still a pleasure to sail to and from, with a varied and beautiful surrounding scenery, full of cliffs, forests, chateaux and abbeys.
