Southampton’s location, at the foot of the United Kingdom, offers an ideal point from which to embark on a cruise out of the UK. With fantastic shopping opportunities and a large number of museums and art galleries, Southampton is a cosmopolitan city with a lot to offer visitors as well as those arriving in the area prior to embarking on a cruise.

La Coruna, Spain

Situated in the Galicia region of north-west Spain, the city of La Coruña – also known as A Coruña – has become a centre for tourism. The city receives in excess of 60 cruise ship visits per year and, upon arrival, it is easy to understand why. A charming city square blends with relics such as the City Hall and a statue of the local heroine, Maria Pita. Many come to La Coruña, however, for its range of famed golden beaches which include Orzan and Riazor – both of which are situated in the heart of the city and are bordered by the promenade.

Aviles is one of the most important cities of the Asturias region of northern Spain, both economically and in terms of population. It is home to a plethora of architectural wonders, particularly in the Old Town, which offers an array of brightly coloured buildings. These buildings, along with the spacious squares and plazas, offer an insight into the culture and heritage of this historical city.

Situated in northern Spain, the coastal city of Santander is renowned for its long expanses of golden beaches and is an established tourist destination. It is home to a collection of fascinating museums and architectural religious landmarks including churches and a cathedral – which dates back to the 13th century and is one of the oldest buildings in Santander.

Situated in the Basque Country of Spain, the city of Bilbao is offers visitors a unique sense of history and culture. The Basque region even has its own language, with the Basque language being the second most-widely spoken language isolate in the world. Bilbao has a proud artistic heritage, which becomes present not only upon visiting the iconic Guggenheim Museum, but also through the gastronomic creations known as Pintxos – a regional variation of tapas.
