Arriving on our doorstep, the latest P&O Cruises vessel, Iona, is set to take the British market by storm. As the largest vessel to be created for UK cruisers, every sailing fan in the UK has high hopes for what she will achieve. To celebrate her naming ceremony, P&O Cruises will host IonaFest on 4th July 2020, which will include appearances and performances from some of the UK’s biggest musical comedy acts.
Leading the charge for P&O’s new flagship is brand ambassador Gary Barlow, who has not only promised to perform on select sailings during Iona’s maiden season, but will also be the headline act for IonaFest, along with The Script and Pixie Lott who were both announced this week. Adding to the line-up are dance act Diversity, led by Ashley Banjo; British electronic band Clean Bandit; award-winning DJ Trevor Nelson; radio presenters Jo Whiley and Sara Cox; and Blur’s Alex James – all of which are sure to have you dancing into the evenings. Finally, comedian/strictly competitor Chris Ramsey and dance professional and guest judge Motsi Mabuse round off the line-up, for now.
IonaFest will sail for seven days, visiting some of Norway’s greatest destinations and offering a truly unforgettable experience. Throughout, the various acts mentioned above will perform in each venue, including the all-new SkyDome that was purposely built to show off the breathtaking fjords. Kick-starting the celebrations will be the naming ceremony. The tradition of breaking a bottle of Champagne against the hull before officially naming the vessel is supposed to bring good luck and has been practised for centuries.
As mentioned before, Iona was purposely built with the fjords in mind. So, whether you are sitting in one of several opulent lounges or dining at stylish restaurants in the evening, you will always be able to catch a glimpse of what Norway is all about.
Iona is like no other P&O Cruises’ ship before her. With brand new dining options, stunning cabins and jaw-dropping sailings, she will encompass everything that modern cruising is about. Leading the way for cuisine, P&O Cruises’ food heroes Marco Pierre White, Eric Lanlard and Olly Smith have all added their own unique touches to each dining venue.
Cruisers have a list of extravagant dining options to choose from each and every evening. The Glass House welcomes those who would like to indulge in classic wine dishes, connecting the perfect tipple with mouth-watering cuisine. The Quays has taken a different approach by combining the best of Asian cuisine along with some international favourites like pizza. Lastly, Sindhu is a lavish Indian restaurant that infuses well-known dishes into one.
Apart from dining, there is a first-at-sea experience waiting for anyone who steps on baord. Iona has a new-found partnership with award-winning gin distiller, Salcombe Gin, and they now boast the first ever distillery at sea. This means the unique gin blend will be distilled, bottled and labelled all whilst on board the vessel. Another interesting collaboration is Snowflake Luxury Gelato, blending British and Italian culture together. From quirky combinations to caramel-filled classics, nothing beats a good ice cream on the top deck.
